In general, Australia follows the guidelines laid out in the US Lanes Wiki. There are however exceptions the those guidelines specific to Australia listed below.

Terminology

  • Gore Point - This is the point at which area markings or a traffic island separates an exiting lane from the existing one.
  • Lane Heuristics - An algorithm that merges a sequence of lane guidance instructions over multiple sequential segments to display a single notification to users. Heuristics play a large part in how lane guidance is displayed to drivers over split segment roads.
