Text to speech

Text to speech (TTS) refers to navigation instructions spoken to the driver by the Waze application.
With the turn instructions override the standard spoken instruction can be altered.

If you encounter wrong pronounciation in Belux, you can report it in Slack channel #63-bl_tts:

Instructions on ramps

To get the required directional TTS for ramps, the sign > is used, which is pronounced as

in direction of' (Eng) '.
"richting" (Dutch)
"en direction de" (french)

Destinations

File:Bord-Direction.png

Destinations used in the name of ramps are generally white city names on the blue sign boards. If the sign board only contains destinations in different color, like black on white or brown touristic destinations, you can use them.

Roundabouts

Roundabouts have their own set of instructionsː For a standard roundabout (4 exits) the instruction is Turn left at the roundabout. For other roundabouts, the instruction will be like Take the third exit at the roundabout.

Abbreviations and symbols

To shorten the length of names, we can use the following symbols or abbreviations that will be pronounced as full words by TTS

Abbreviation
or symbol
translates to remarks
English Dutch french German
> in direction of richting en direction de richtung used mainly on ramps
Prof.
Dr.
