Because of the international character of this MapRaid, the main language is English. There is help for translations. As we have raiders from many different time zones, we will use time in UTC.
When working in the raid area, please set yourself to set yourself visible in WME chat. Also, turn on the Live Users layer. This will serve to collaborate smoothly and get quick help at your location if needed.
We will use Slack as the main communication platform. There is a special Turkish MapRaid channel for this raid. If you are not already part of the MapRaid Slack team, you will be invited shortly before the Raid starts. If anything goes wrong and you didn't receive the invite when the raid is about to start, click here to get your Slack invitation (choose WazeMapRaid). If you have trouble getting into the Slack team or channels, please reach out to one of the MapRaid hosts.
We kindly urge you to stay within the raid area of Denizli. Use the overlay as it clearly shows the border. Mind you that the overlay is not very detailed at the border, so it is not a source for city names in that area.
Improve major connectivity
We need to check the routes that connect the neighbourhoods. Many times, highways are interrupted by lower level streets, and Waze cannot calculate a long distance route. Like the example in the picture: because the roundabout is of road type Street, Waze will NOT use it in long distance routing. It should be corrected to road type MH. Moreover, this should not be a roundabout, like many roundabouts in Turkey.
You can check routes in the live map. Helpful is the information on road categories in the Turkish wiki page. The government provides an overview of the major roads for Denizli, Click on the picture for a larger image.
Correcting base map
In many places, the base map import needs to be corrected. You can read more about it in the paragraph on Base_Map_Editing in Turkey on the Turkish wiki page.
Add missing roads
Solve URs and MPs
We have prepared some default responses for handling URs. A guideline for Turkey can be found on the Turkish wiki page. In case you use the URComments script, we can provide you with an extra set of Turkish-English comments pasted in the International List.
Correcting road names
Denizli has 19 districts. As the address administration changed in 2014, many roads are wrongly named. We are currently in contact with the municipality for the use of a GIS source. At least we need the districts added to the road name to be able to have unique addresses. This will be done in the city field, like described on the Turkish wiki page. When you edit road names, make sure to also use the correct abbreviations.
Unfortunately, we cannot use the overlay to define the borders of the districts. Click on the picture above to see a larger version from the source.
NEW You can use the Denizli working sheet for correcting road names and adding districts. In case of doubt, or if you need help adding a new district name, you can fill out this form and we´ll come back to you.
We need to write a warning too, because road naming is very complex in Turkey: Do not copy, do not delete existing road names. Only update road names unless you have verified them and are absolutely sure! We are currently writing a helpfile for this.
Speed Limits and other edits
All Speed Limits in Turkey are in km/h (kph). Only add speed limits when there are recent streetview images in WME that can verify the allowed speed.
Adding Speed Limits is NOT a goal of this mapraid. You may update them, along with other problems you find, but please keep the focus on the goals of this mapraid as shown above. For any other problem that need attention, you may report it via this form .
For all edits: please read the Turkish wiki page for the specifics on editing!
Mass edits and quality
In Base Map areas, mass edits are allowed, as long as they are constructive to the map. Be aware that we will monitor edits, so avoid unnecessary edits and hunting for points. Quality counts, not quantity. Sanctions are strict, being banned from this and future mapraids. In addition, Waze throttles your edits and points when scripts are used excessively, meaning that you don't earn points for mass editing.
If you are using a tool or script, you are fully responsible for its use and its consequences. Please make sure that you understand the features of the script you are using. You will be held accountable for any side effects.

Tools for this mapraid
Only use sources that are allowed by Waze.
Generally allowed sources:
- Satellite Imagery and Street-view from within WME.
- Websites from businesses.
NOT allowed sources:
- Info from other Maps.
- Google Maps
- Google Street-view.
Warning: If you copy information from unauthorized sources, you may be removed from this mapraid. Also, every segment you edited may be removed from the map. Copying information from copyrighted sources is illegal!
Specific tools for this MapRaid
- There is an overlay for WME to view the boundaries of Denizli via an extra layer. Keep in mind that the border is very rough and cannot be used to define the city limit.
Highly Recommended Tools
Many tools are essential for good editing, and others make the editing process much easier. Highly recommended are:
- This is a script that validates a map area in the Waze Map Editor, highlights issues and can generate a very detailed report with global and U.S. wiki references and possible solutions. Keep in mind that guidelines of Turkey (if available on the subject) precede over the guidelines of the U.S.; not all reported errors need to be mistakes in another location.
- This is a script that facilitate the process of editing maps in the WME. It has a toolbar that facilitates the process of removing unnecessary nodes, cut segments, locate "Soft Nodes", or nodes with undefined directions.
!!Please remember that you are responsible for edits made through the use of scripts!!
