Welcome to Canada

Canada follows most of the editing guidelines that the USA does so most practices can be used without issue.

However there are a few differences that need to be understood before entering the Great White North!

-Freeways have a different method of being set up and entered/exited. Do not change any road types without contacting a local host first.

-Be aware that French is the second language for all of Canada and many people speak it as their first. If you run into a French issue, please do not use Google Translate. Several of our Canadian editors are fluent, please contact them to deal with the issue.

-Although there is a locking standard table, Canada has Traffic Locks (Auto Locks) active. These locks take precedence.

Please review the Canada Wiki page before diving into our icy waters!

Thanks for participating and happy editing!

Our primary mission will be to handle the URs, and PURs, followed by Place validation, and general map verification.

Please do not alter any of the following road types without first consulting a Local Host: Freeway, Ramp, Major Highway, Minor Highway, Primary Street. You may edit these roads, but do not change the type of the segment.

Please do not mass-edit Do not perform edits which will affect large numbers of segments at once. The edit history of segments is highly valuable in the process of solving URs. Mass editing effectively mass erases this history, permanently. We ask that all necessary processes which might affect large portions of the map, or long stretches of roads, be reserved until near the end of the MapRaid. This includes the “Select entire street” function. To facilitate this process in an orderly fashion, we have the Scheduled Edits list below. Please document any mass edits which are required, and you will be given first chance to make those edits when the time is right.

Anything locked at 5 or 6? Please check with a local editor before making changes.
If you are a rank 5 or 6 editor - consider keeping highlights active for locks 5 and 6.

Close nodes We make extensive use of the "micro-dogleg" technique, where a geometry node is carefully placed, at full zoom, directly next to a junction node, in order to set the angle to create a desired Turn/Stay/Exit prompt. Please watch for these if you move any junction node, and be sure to recreate the same angle at the new location.

Local Guidance

Canada has active "Traffic Locks", these locks are based on usage from users. They are limited to a max rank of 4, but can be any rank below.

Segments that have restricted turns must be locked to Level 5.

When traffic locks are not enough to effectively protect an area, or after a city has undergone a "Road Classification" change the locks may be manually set to the below standards, depending on the decision of the Canadian Champs.

If the traffic lock is higher than the minimum standards listed below, please don't lower the lock.

Canada Road Minimum Locking Rank Standard
Segment Type Default locks
 Freeway  5
Ramp  highest rank of connected segment
Arrow Red-2.pngRestriction arrow yellow mouseover.gif 5
 Major Highway  4
 Minor Highway  3
 Primary Street  2
 Street  1
 :|:|:|:|:Railroad:|:|:|:|:  2
 Ferry  5

Functional/Road Classification

Road Classification has only been implemented in a few major cities in Canada. There are limited government created FC in the country of Canada and generally are only available to certain areas.

Place Editing

PUR should be reviewed for accuracy, one approved all relevant information pertaining to the place should be entered. Please use companies website to gather all information you can. Once a place is complete please either lock to rank 3 or let someone know so they may lock it.

This practice will prevent app trusted users and most IGN editors from making incorrect changes to places we know are right.

Following are general standards for place locking in Canada:

CanadaPlace Minimum Locking Rank Standard
Place Type Default locks
Airports 5
Hospitals 5
Major Tourist Attractions/Landmarks 5
Police/Fire Stations 4
Gas Staions 3

To submit a road closure, please use this form. To see the current list of closures, click here.

For more road closure information please contact a champ or visit our forum.

Speed Cameras are not allowed in Ontario, feel free to remove them.

MapRaid Promotions

Some editors really let their bright side out, and let their community skills shine. This is even more evident in a concerted group effort with high-density editing like a MapRaid!. Editors of all ranks working closely with each other and the Champs, really lets us everyone get to know each other, and allows certain editors to be recognized for their skills and effort.

When the Champs see someone consistently editing well, interacting well with the community, and knowledgeable of the various details from the Wiki, they can issue promotions. This can be anything from the size of a managed area, to a rank increase, or even a new role.

Watch here for results of promotions during and after the raid.
