There are 11,700 kilometres (7,270 mi) of highway in Sierra Leone, of which 936 km (582 mi) are paved. When construction and reconstruction of roads and bridges in the country is complete, the Trans–West African Coastal Highway will cross Sierra Leone, connecting it to Conakry (Guinea), Monrovia (Liberia), and 11 other nations of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
There are ten airports in Sierra Leone, of which one has paved runways (the length of which exceeds 3,047 m or 9,997 ft). Of the remaining airports, all of which having unpaved runways, seven have runways of lengths between 914 and 1,523 m (2,999 and 4,997 ft); the remaining two having runways of shorter length. There are two heliports in the country.
There are 800 km (497 mi) of waterways in Sierra Leone, of which 600 km (373 mi) are navigable year-round.
Major ports of Sierra Leone include: Bonthe, Freetown and Pepel. Queen Elizabeth II Quay in Freetown represents the country's only deep water port facility capable of berthing large-hulled cargo or military vessels. The country possesses a merchant marine of two cargo ships with masses exceeding 1,000GRT.
If like most you, and the majority of us are new to MapRaiding, it's important that you read the forum posts within the MapRaid area. Also ensure that you have discord downloaded - NO DISCORD - NO AREAS - your choice - Discord is the perfect way for us to all. Normally within Discord you'll find a senior editor, a country manager or a moderator online, they are there to help you - if you don't get answer within a few minutes WAIT - one of them will get back to to you.
When map editing, a common mistake is to map at the wrong zoom level - make sure that you are at at least zoom level 6 - below that, when another editor zooms in - your edits aren't good enough and they will have to re-edit your work - not good for any of us - see images !!!
Lv4 - it's easy to trace a road - INCORRECTLY
Lv6 - Spot the error !!!
Your Settings / Scripts
Within your Waze setting make sure that you enable Metric, not imperial, Scripts that are useful including, TOOLBOX, which works in Chrome and Firefox.
Magic, which only works in Chrome, but is an amazing piece of scripting and Edit counter (we all like to know how we are doing) if you don't use scripts at present please download Tampermonkey, then have a look at the scripts page within the WAZE wiki
Sierra Leone is the same as all African countries, you drive on the right, we do have an issue, roundabouts - there a very few, but at the moment they route clockwise, they should route anti-clockwise - WAZE HQ are aware and a fix will be put into place - for now if you find a Roundabout, you'll need to manually reverse ALL segments.
Things EVERY editor SHOULD know.
All roads are made up of 1 or more segments.
Segments are connected by 1 or 2 nodes (junctions).
|Freeway||These are the main backbone of the country and are often multi lanes|
|Major Highways||These are also known as highways, they are paved and commonly two lanes|
|Minor Highways||There are a mix of unpaved and paved road, these tend to link towns|
|Primary Street||There are a mix of unpaved and paved, often found in towns, High Volume of Traffic|
|Street||These make up the majority of the country and are near always unpaved*|
|Parking Lot Roads||These are only used in Car Parks, and Fuel Stations|
- * Please note despite the majority of the country being unpaved, DO NOT use the Off Road / Not Maintained type of road, and do not tick the unpaved check box as this causes routing issues.
Other Map Features
Railways (Railroads) should be mapped and should have an elevation set to -5 and a lock set to 5 (if you are a lower rank please request an uplock). Railways / Railroads, should not be named
Airports, Please only map the runways, not the taxi ways, again with an elevation set to -5 and locked to Level 5.
Fuel Stations / shopping mails / Airport / rivers and lakes.
It's always good to map these where possible as it helps the driver to get their barrings, always map larger places as AREAS and smaller locations with just a place point. - for example a building of less than 1.200m² will not show up on the client. Also where possible please fill in the external provider box - but only if you are sure, and ensure that areas are mapped to the fence line.
Naming of roads
This section is important - If you use the wrong suffice for a road then the voice prompt will be be wrong - Please follow the following protocol. Name roads as FOLLOWS -
The following abbreviations should be used where possible to conserve screen space.
|ROAD NAME||ABBREVIATION||TTS EXPANSION?|
|Junction (as in Motorway Jxx)||J||Yes|
