== Road Classification Guide==
See [[Road Naming (USA)]], [[Road Types (USA)]]

Most of the state's roads are typed according to [http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/MapsData/Tools/FunctionalClass/ WSDOT functional classification], as listed below. Most of the state road types are set to WSDOT's map. Of course, there are always exceptions, so the Functional Class map isn't biblical truth, but if we map the roads according to WSDOT's FC map the [https://www.waze.com/wiki/Routing_server routing] choices will be a lot better!

If you want to know more about the Federal Functional Classification check [https://www.waze.com/wiki/Routing_server this].{{NotAtLinkGiven}}

=== Anywhere ===

=== Alleys ===
*Alleys should always be mapped if they have a name.
*Alleys should always be mapped if they are the sole access to a home or business.
*Alleys should always be set to "Private"
*Alleys are normally mapped if they are acknowledged by the municipality.
If an alley does not meet the above criteria, mapping is optional. Leave the name field blank.

=== Non-Driveable Roads ===
Generally, if a path can't be driven on (e.g. Walking Trail, Pedestrain Boardwalk, Stairway, Railroad, Runway/Taxiway) then it not normally mapped. If it is mapped, it should not be connected to any roads.  This is due to the way the routing engine works, as Waze '''will''' route users to drive on these "Non-Driveable" road types.

It is permitted to map passenger Railroads (e.g., Amtrak, Sounder, Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad) because some users run Waze while on the train and contribute false data to the system.  This false data has been known to effect drivers on adjacent roads. Railroads should be level -5 and locked at the highest level of the editor.

=== Driveways ===
*Driveways are always marked as private road
*Driveways are mapped if they 50m (164 feet or about half a football field) or longer PERMALINK EXAMPLE HERE
*Driveways are mapped if they are close but not connected to adjacent  street PERMALINK EXAMPLE HERE
*Driveways are mapped if they are serving two or more addresses PERMALINK EXAMPLE HERE
*Driveways do not have a name unless they serve multiple houses PERMALINK EXAMPLE HERE
