[[File:Median-u-turn.png|right|375px]] Het Waze routing algoritme voorkomt dubbel-links en dubbel-rechts afslaan door het toepassen van een extreem hoge U-bocht penalty wanneer deze condities gelden:  
* Drie segmenten: De U-bocht is een omkering van de rijrichting via drie segmenten: het inrijdende segment (A), een enkel verbindingssegment (B) en een uitrijdend segment (C).
* Kort verbindingssegment: Het verbindingssegment (B) is kleiner of gelijk aan 15 meter.
* In/uit parallelisme: De in- en uitgaande segmenten (A en C) zijn, binnen een hoek van ±5°, parallel aan elkaar. Wanneer het verbindingssegment niet recht is, bereken dan de hoek alsof het segment wat A en C verbindt een denkbeeldig recht segment is.
* Niet alle A, B and C segmenten zijn van het wegtype [[Street|Straat]].

''Voorbeeld / zie plaatje:'' Rijdend van links naar rechts over de bovenste straat (A) met bestemming westwaards vereist een omkering van de rijrichting. Wanneer het verbindingssegment B (rode pijl) 15 meter of minder is dan zal de app instructies geven over de lagere straat in westelijke richting. Alleen wanneer het verbindingssegment 16 meter of langer is zal de app een route geven over de grotere weg in het midden (C).<br />

Double left and double right

The Waze routing algorithm prevents double-left or double-right turns by using an extremely large U-turn penalty when these conditions are met:

  • Three segments: The U-turn is a reversal of driving direction through three segments: an incoming segment (A), a single median segment (B) and an outgoing segment (C).
  • Short median: The median segment (B) is shorter than or equal to 15 meters.
  • In/out parallelism: The in and out segments (A and C) are within ±5° of parallel to each other. If the median segment isn't straight calculate the degrees as if an imaginary straight segment was connectining the A and C segments.
  • Not all the A, B and C segments are Street.


Example / see picture: Driving from left to right on the top street (A) with destination towards the west requires a reversal of driving direction. When the median segment B (red arrow) is 15 meters or less the app will navigate over the lower street towards the west. Only if this median segment is 16 meters or more the app will navigate over the bigger road in the middle (C).
