The Primary Goals of this WoWs3/MapRaid is to verify and build the road networks across Pakistan as well as improve connectivity of existing road networks.
WoWs3 will be held on Pakistan Discord server. YOU MUST BE ON THIS DISCORD or you will not be allowed to participate.
This trip to Pakistan will be focused on the northern half of the country unlike the previous WoWs2 which focused on the entire country. This will allow for more focus on areas of population and the major cities.
When working in the raid area, please set yourself to visible within WME Chat and make sure your country in WME Chat is set to Pakistan and enable the "Live Users" layer in WME. This will allow other raiders to see where you are working as well as help the senior editors and hosts find you should you have questions, and allow you to see other editors working in that area. Goals
Remember as always, the ultimate goal of any WoWs/Mapraid is to have fun, meet new editors and make Waze the best navigation app possible.
Primary Goals
- Verify and build road networks throughout the MapRaid areas.*
- Connectivity of existing road networks
- Build missing towns/city road networks
- Split the roads: from two directional segments to two one way segments. (Remember Pakistan is Left Hand Driving, meaning you drive on the left side of the road) [Example]
- Add missing service roads
*Naming of road names/city names can be left for local editors if no official information is available, also remember not all GPS traces are roads, some are railways.

Please do not trust the city names that WME is automatically proposing! Please verify it in other sources (if available) or with local editors. If the name is OK please use it only in area where you can see the buildings. Automatic approving of the city name can cause "smudge city problem" or route to wrong place. If you are not sure, please mark city name field as "None". |

Cities

Naming
Unique naming is very important to find a specific address and to improve the end user navigation experience. In Pakistan, we have an additional aspect to consider while naming a city or street which is the dual language system. We are using English as well as Urdu as our language of communication; English is mainly for online tasks whereas Urdu (our National language) is used to communicate among people. The layman (as well as others) is using mainly Roman Urdu (Urdu written with Roman/English alphabets) to communicate while using different communication channels e.g., Mobile SMS, Internet etc. Urdu alphabets are also in use, though it seems difficult to type. One thing is sure that we humans are more comfortable in our native/national language than in English (or any other foreign language) and using Urdu in Naming would increase the outreach of Waze; the end user would see the map in his/her native/national language and would have more tendency to accept it and use it frequently. Hence, language factor must be considered to name a city and street etc.
In Pakistan, we don’t have unique names for each and every street; we have sometimes the street numbers and sometimes names and sometimes we don’t have any name at all for the streets. We are using sectors/ blocks/ community or colony names to find those streets, in our real life. Hence, the sectors/blocks/community/colony factor should also be considered while naming.
Pakistan Team has discussed the naming system for cities to be used and have determined to use Romain Urdu and Urdu names as the primary names.
Examples:
- City Name: Dera Ismail Khan ڈیرہ اسماعیل خان
- If you do not know the Urdu translation the primary name should be Roman Urdu ("English"). If you cannot verify the Urdu or Roman Urdu name please leave the names marked as "None" and let the local community add the names or reach out to one of the local community members. Do not use online translators as they are not always accurate. Remember you can always navigate across unnamed roads but you cannot navigate without the roads.

Pakistan is a LEFT HAND TRAFFIC (LHT) country, meaning you drive on the LEFT side of the road. Please keep this in mind when mapping roads, especially divided roadways. |
Road Types
Pakistan is made up of many different types and styles of roads. Below is a list of a few of them.
- Freeway (FWY) - Motorways* (limited access roads with no signal control)
- Ramp Connect Motorways (FWY) to other roadways.
- Major Highway (MH) - All National Highways (which have numbers like N-55 and Expressways which have numbers like E-2)
- Minor Highway (mH) - All roads that connect two cities.
- Primary Street (PS) - Major in-city roads and roads to small villages/Chak.
- Street - Streets within a city that are not listed as above. Typically neighbourhood roads.
- Private Road (PR) - Used for gated communities or private roads where the public would not be allowed to be routed through.
- Parking Lot Road (PLR) - Roads within a Parking Lot Area, such as shopping centers, Petrol Pumps etc.
* Motorways are TOLLED roads, please make sure to properly place the TOLL FLAG on the entry/exit sections of the Motorways.
* Motorcycles are NOT ALLOWED on Motorways, Segment Restrictions should be set in place to prohibit motorcycles on the entry/exit segments.

U-Turns
As a general rule U-Turns can be enabled for all TWO WAY roads where applicable unless specifically prohibited, including rural and urban/city areas. U-turns should only be set if editing the segment for other purposes. If you have any questions, please reach out to your group before changing.

Recommended Scripts
These tools are all scripts that will help you make better use of the information available to you in WME. For this WoW, the following are highly recommended. You are responsible for learning what they do and using them appropriately.
- A powerful script that will help you spot map problems more quickly. Ask group leaders for the best settings for the types of problems you are working on
- Install for Chrome only (Requires Tampermonkey).
- Helps you spot 2-segment loops, segments with undefined direction, and "soft nodes" with unconfirmed turns, and has other tools available for higher-ranked editors.
- An extension that shows junction's angles. Essential for knowing what the default Waze turn instructions will be.
- Install for Chrome or Firefox
