Mediawiki

designate a free and open-source wiki application, developed by the Wikimedia Foundation, and runs on many websites like Wikipedia. In this wiki, Mediawiki designate the technoly platform that is hosting the wikis.

Wazeopedia

designate the new overall Mediawiki platform and all Wiki Instances that are hosted on it.

Wiki Instance

designate a Wiki, hosted by the Wazeopedia platform. Each Wiki Instance is a separated and independent container, storing the set of Wiki Pages that have been created in this Wiki Instance.

Namespace

designate a subdivision (or a partition) in the storage, within a Wiki Instance. Wiki pages are stored in a given Namespace, within a given Wiki Instance. Usually, each Namespace regroup a collection of Wiki Pages which have content with a similar purpose, i.e. pages where the intended use is the same. In Wazeopedia, each Wiki Instance will be created with the following set of Namespaces:

  • Main Namespace: This is a default partition where are stored Wiki Pages containing “real” content that should be displayed to any user. Wiki Pages in this Main Namespace are identified with their Page Title, without any prefix (e.g. Waze Map Editor)
  • Talk Namespace: This is a partition where are stored Wiki Pages containing the discussions related to Wiki Pages from the Main Namespace. Such page is identified with the “Talk:” prefix, followed by the Page Title of the related Wiki Page subject to discussion (e.g. Talk:Waze Map Editor). However, the community has decided to not use this Namespace as place to discuss the content of the related page and is handling such debate in a dedicated thread on the Waze Forums.

  • User Namespace: This is a partition where are stored user’s pages. Each registered user can have a corresponding page in the User Namespace. This page is identified with the “User:” prefix, followed by the user name (e.g. User:John). This page, and subpages of it, can be used by users to record information about themselves or to test and draft new content. However, pages in User Namespace belong to the community. They are not a personal homepage, and do not belong to the user. They are part of Wazeopedia, and exist to make collaboration among editors easier
  • User talk Namespace: This is a partition where are stored Wiki Pages containing the discussions related to Wiki Pages from the User Namespace. Such page is identified with the “User talk:” prefix, followed by the Page Title of the related Wiki Page subject to discussion (e.g. User talk:John). It is the user’s call to decide to use (or not) such talk page.

  • Template Namespace: This is partition where are store Templates, blocks of text or Wikicode that are intended to be transcluded into several other pages. Such page is identified with the “Template:” prefix, followed by the Page Title of the Template (e.g. Template:Foobar).
  • Template talk Namespace: This is a partition where are stored Wiki Pages containing the discussions related to Wiki Pages from the Template Namespace. Such page is identified with the “Template talk:” prefix, followed by the Page Title of the related Template subject to discussion (e.g. Template talk:Foobar). However, the community has decided to not use this Namespace as place to discuss the content of the related template and is handling such debate in a dedicated thread on the Waze Forums.

  • Wazeopedia Namespace: This is partition where are store Wiki Pages about the Mediawiki internal platform purposes, like page administration practices, pages creation guidance. Such page is identified with the “Wazeopedia:” prefix, followed by the Page Title of the Template (e.g. Wazeopedia:Move a Wiki Page).
  • Wazeopedia talk Namespace: This is a partition where are stored Wiki Pages containing the discussions related to Wiki Pages from the Wazeopedia Namespace. Such page is identified with the “Wazeopedia talk:” prefix, followed by the Page Title of the related Wiki Page, from the Wazeopedia Namespace, that is subject to discussion (e.g. Wazeopedia talk: Move a Wiki Page). However, the community has decided to not use this Namespace as place to discuss the content of the related template and is handling such debate in a dedicated thread on the Waze Forums.
