City Naming in Pennsylvania

If a township and a Borough/City share the same name, the Township should get the qualifier. e.g. Smith Township and Smith Borough in Adams County. Smith Borough would be simply Smith, and Smith Township would be Smith Twp

If 2 or more townships have the same name but are in different counties, they should both have the county appended to the name.

  • Concord, Delaware
  • Concord, Erie

If there is a combination of the above 2 rules occurs, the naming should use both standards. example:

  • Union Twp, Franklin
  • Union, Franklin
  • Union, Snyder.

Exception if the municipality is in a county of the same name - it should be presented without qualifier e.g. Butler city in Butler county, York city in York county. Additionally, if there is a like named township, it should also be presented without the county - Butler Twp, York Twp
