This is a cut-and-paste template of a PM you can construct to send to a new editor that has gained your attention due to questionable edits. It allows you to start with a friendly "Thank You" to the editor for contributing their time to improving the map, while pointing out that an edit may have been incorrect. You can then choose from a selection of "canned" responses to address frequent bad edits, with links to Wiki articles/sections specifically addressing the error. You then conclude with the Required Reading section, which outlines all of the important Wiki articles to read.

Copy and paste the intro, one or more bullet points, and the Required Reading section, and you're set. Text in italics means that a section needs to be personalized. Replace the italicized text with the text appropriate for your situation.

Intro

Hello!

Welcome to Waze editing in Michigan! I've noticed a few edits in the [AREA OF CONCERN] area. Your edits are appreciated, and it's a big help to lend your time to making the Waze experience better - we always need more volunteers. However, I'd like to review a recent edit to ensure and enforce the mapping standards we must adhere to in our state.

Bullet Points

Red Roads

Notice how the roads that you edited are red? That means that they are missing crucial information. In addition to direction and road type, ALL road segments must at least have a State and City. If the roads are red, you're missing this information. See
this Wiki article to learn about how to confirm details on roads.

PLR Abuse

Simplicity is crucial when it comes to Waze, as most of the time the map is being displayed on a screen just a few inches large. We do not map individual lanes in parking lots, because it clutters the map makes it hard to see the navigable roads on the map. See this Wiki article to learn about the proper use of parking lot roads.

No Connection Due To Lock

Did you notice that you couldn't attach the entrance roads to [LOCKED ROAD(s)]? That's because these roads are locked above your level. You cannot join to or edit roads that are locked above your current rank. Road locks are in place to prevent damage to the map by inadvertent mistakes.
