Important: the shield will be applied to all the segments with the same Street Name.

How to add Roadshield on Turns and How to use the TTS override

  1. Select the segment and hover on the relevant Turn
  2. Click on Add Instructions
  3. Under “Visual Instructions”, click the “+”, then you can choose between:
    • Road shield In the turn instruction panel, you will only see streets that are nearby that turn. In case you want to show a roadshield that is further from that turn, you will need to click the “x” to remove the shield field, zoom out & pan until the street with the shield you want is visible, and try adding the road shield again.
    • Free Text
  4. By clicking on the item that appears, you can choose the shield and (if necessary) type in the direction of travel (West, East, North, South).
  5. You can also add a Towards text by typing into the “Towards” box.
  6. If the instruction is for a numbered exit:
    • add an Exit Sign by clicking the “+” in the “Exit signs” box
    • choosing the appropriate sign
    • then typing in the exit number (digits, letters, and hyphens only—do not type in the word “Exit”).
  7. You will be able also to control the voice prompts and (effectively replacing the road name) in the TTS. IMPORTANT: The TTS override should only be used as an indication to the driver as to where (street name) they should be turning to. In case you'd want to use the TTS override for any other purpose, please contact your CM beforehand and make sure you have their approval.
  8. All the info added will generate a preview of the instruction bar in the client IMPORTANT: In case there is only a shield in the “Visual instruction” and no text, the Towards line will be automatically moved upwards by the side of the shield.

How to map turn guidance on roundabouts

In order to receive the correct turn instructions with roadshields on roundabouts make sure to add the turn guidance on the exit turn from the roundabout. The turn guidance from the exit will be copied to the entry one.

If there is a turn guidance on the entry turn this will override the instructions mapped on the exit.

Where and when to map roadshields

Roadshield on streets - Each street that has a shield and it's available in WME should be mapped.

Roadshield on turns -  Every turn  that has an exit or the turn goes directly on the road with a shield and adds value to the driver should be mapped.

How Roadshield will affect the turn instructions in the client

  1. If an editor adds the "Turn Guidance" this will be shown in the instruction bar.
  2. If no edits were done on the turn guidance but the street has a roadshield (or roadshield with direction): If all the following conditions are met the shield will  replace the street name:
    • Simple name only (i.e. not replacing "road X / road y")
    • The name has up to 2 tokens:  “token1 token2” (e.g. not replacing "Rue de la Mairie" )
    • One of the tokens includes the shield number
  3. If no turn instruction and no road shields exist, we will present the street name in text

In case there is a turn, via a ramp, to a street that has a shield mapped that meets the condition 2 above, the client will not show the shield image in the instruction bar.

In those cases the turn guidance can be mapped in WME by the editors

Note:

Shield text and direction will be split into 2 different rows.

If one of those rows has a text too long, it will be truncated as today.

IMPORTANT:

  • Existing roadshields will be already visible and associated with the relevant streets in WME.
  • Existing roadshields on the client map will continue using the current images.
  • New roadshield that will be mapped on streets, at this stage will not be visible on the map.
  • Not all requested shields have been added, we will be adding roadshields and exit signs in batches.
  • Roadshield on Streets and the Turn Guidance (Roadshield on Turns) have 2 separate lock ranks, configurable per country.
  • View/Edit have different lockrank. Everyone will be able to see them, but only those with the specific rank will be able to edit.
