De Road shield regels voor E-wegen zijn:

* Alleen een E schild toevoegen in de navigatie-aanwijzing als deze op het hoofdbord staat. Wanneer het E-nummer op een bovenbord vermeld staat dit niet opnemen. 
* Opnemen in de volgorde waarin dat ze op de borden staan aangegeven. Doorgaans is de praktijk: A-nummer voor E-nummer, maar er zijn uitzonderingen.
* Een E nummer wordt niet in de TTS gezet.
