You can also select results from other search engines. Please let us know if you continue to have the issue. Otherwise we'll close this report in a few days. Thanks!

=== Missing Roads - At Speed ===
 +
:<small>The roads here have been pretty thoroughly mapped and volunteers can't see anything missing that should ordinarily be there. Waze probably simply chose not to show you the road in question. When moving at highway speeds, Waze deliberately chooses not to display some nearby roads to avoid cluttering the screen. If you're certain a road is missing from the map, please reply letting us know as much as possible about the missing road. Otherwise we'll close this report in a few days. Thanks!

=== Standing Start ("180") ===
 +
:<small>It appears you may have asked for a new route from a standing start. Please drive in the direction you desire to give Waze a chance to know which way you are headed and offer you a more suitable route. Waze will recalculate the route or you may ask for the route again.
 +
<br>
 +
:When asking for a route immediately after waking up Waze, it must guess what direction you are pointed. It may give you an awkward route, particularly in a parking lot with mapped parking lot roads.

=== U-Turns - Allowed in Illinois ===

:<small>The driver is the final arbiter on route selection. If you feel a suggested route is not appropriate for any reason, please use your judgement to disregard an objectionable route suggestion. Waze will calculate a new route.
 +
<br>
 +
:U-Turns in Illinois are allowed under the conditions provided in the Illinois Vehicle Code (625 ILCS 5) unless restricted by the State or local municipality. The imagery we have available does not indicate any posted restrictions and we can't edit the map to countervene.

=== Road Closed ===
 +
:<small>How long will the road be closed? For closures of only a few days, we volunteer map editors can't be much help. It takes at least that long for our edits to make it to devices! When you encounter short-term road closures in the future, please use the Report->Closure feature in the Waze app. If this is a long-term closure please respond and let us know as much as you can. Thanks!

===== ''Address - Incorrect Position'' =====

:Thank you for your report. Would you please let us know what address you're reporting the problem with? You can also use the Report -> Places feature in Waze to mark the location. It is helpful that after taking a picture, if you move near the location your marking to save the place. Also, please do not submit pictures containing faces, license plates, or similar personal details. Thanks!

===== ''Address - Missing from Map'' =====

:Thank you for your report. Would you please let us know where the address you're reporting is? The live map doesn't have all the street numbers for that street and Waze is interpolating in error. You can also use the Report -> Places feature in Waze to mark the location. It is helpful that after taking a picture, if you move near the location your marking to save the place. Also, please do not submit pictures containing faces, license plates, or similar personal details. Thanks!

===== ''Address - Search Results Bad'' =====

:Thank you for your report. The search feature retrieves results from a number of locations, including Google. Scrolling to the bottom the Navigate screen, you'll see "More results for 'name.'" Select that and Waze will list locations "Around You." From there, you can also select results from other search engines.

===== ''Detours / Odd-Routing'' =====

:I can't find anything in the map to explain route Waze gave you. Waze wants to save you time every way it can and sometimes it suggests complex detours just to shave a few seconds off your trip. Waze may recommend a "detour" even after the traffic has cleared up because: it doesn't know yet, other Wazers may have reported a temporary street closure, or daily traffic patterns. In any event, I am very sorry to say that we volunteer map editors can't be much help here. Thanks!

===== ''Follow-Up'' =====

:Just a reminder: We haven't received a response on your report. If we don't hear back from you we'll have to infer everything is okay and close the report. Thanks!

===== ''Follow-Up - Complete'' =====

:We haven't received a response and are inferring that all is well. As you travel, please feel welcome to report any map issues you encounter. Thanks!

===== ''Follow-Up - No Response/Closed'' =====

:The problem was unclear and volunteers didn't receive a response. As you travel, please feel welcome to report any map issues you encounter. Thanks!

===== ''House Number Adjustment'' =====

:I've forced Waze to re-register the house number for your destination. I believe this should correct your issue. Please allow 48 hours for changes to be reflected in the live map. If the location is in your saved searches or favorites, please remove them and search for them again to pick up the change in the live map. Please let me know if you continue to experience the problem. Thanks!

===== ''Missing Roads / Roads Not Displaying'' =====

:The roads here have been pretty thoroughly mapped and we volunteers can't see anything missing that should ordinarily be there. Waze probably simply chose not to show you the road in question. When moving at highway speeds, Waze deliberately chooses not to display some nearby roads to avoid cluttering the screen. If you are certain a road is missing from the map, please reply letting us know as much as possible about the missing road. Thanks!

===== ''Road Closure Request - Temporary'' =====

:How long will the road be closed? For closures of only a few days, we volunteer map editors can't be much help. It takes at least that long for our edits to make it to devices! When you encounter short-term road closures in the future, please use the Report->Closure feature in the Waze app. If this is a long-term closure please respond and let us know as much as you can. Thanks!

===== ''Traffic - Stale Information'' =====

:Volunteer map editors can't do anything about Waze's traffic reporting; but, I can explain what may have happened. Waze relies on data from people using Waze to assess traffic. In the case of a fresh accident or slowdown, Waze may not yet have any data on the situation and route you into it because it doesn't know. Once Waze has detected a traffic situation, it can remember it for awhile, sometimes long after the situation changes.

===== ''Traffic - Use Traffic Jam'' =====

:To report traffic jam conditions, please use the Report -> Traffic Jam options in the Waze app. This will tell Waze about the problem in real-time. Traffic Jam reports can help route you and other Wazers around traffic snarls.

== No Information Reports ==
+
:Please feel welcome to report any map issues you encounter.
===== ''General Error Report'' =====

:Responding to your "general error" report. The information at hand doesn't describe the situation well enough to act. Would you please provide more detail? Thanks!

===== ''Incorrect Junction Report'' =====

:Responding to your "incorrect junction" report. Would you please let us know what was in error? At what intersection? Thanks!

===== ''Missing Exit Report'' =====

:Responding to your "missing exit" report. Would you please let us know what exit you believe is missing? Thanks!

===== ''Missing Road Report'' =====

:Responding to your "missing road" report. Would you please let us know what road you believe is missing? Thanks!

===== ''Turn Not Allowed Report'' =====

:Responding to your "turn not allowed" report. Would you please let us know what turn was not, or should not be, allowed? At what intersection? Thanks!

===== ''Wrong Driving Direction Report'' =====

:Responding to your "wrong driving direction" report. Waze doesn't tell editors where you were going. Would you please let us know what went wrong with the route Waze gave you? If you can include your destination as you entered it into Waze it can be helpful too. Thanks!

===== ''Chicago Alleys'' =====

:Waze doesn't tell volunteer editors where you were going, although it was probably adjacent to the alley. If you would, please supply your destination as you entered it into Waze it may be helpful in correcting the route. Thanks!

===== ''Road Closed'' =====

:Would you please let us know what road is closed? Between which locations? Do you know how long?

Revision as of 14:28, 24 October 2014

This is an on-going work-in-progress. I adjust my pre-formatted responses based on my personal experience on a irregular basis.

Acknowledgements: Many of these responses had their genesis in the fine work done in DwarfLord's UR Responses and amended based on experience in the Chicago Metro area.

Introduction

These responses can be cut-and-paste into UR conversations or loaded into your favorite tool. In many cases, when replying, it is helpful to edit and customize one of these responses for a particular case.

I didn't include them in this document, but "Thanks!" and "You're Welcome!" should be in the editor lexicon.

Follow-Up Responses

Closed responses only after seven days of no response. Reminder response, in Chicago Metro, has been found useful at four days on URs you initially replied to and have not received a response. Otherwise use reminder at seven days if no response by editor or reporter, depending on local conventions.

Closed - Unclear

The problem was unclear and volunteers didn't receive a response. Please feel welcome to report any map issues you encounter. Thanks!

Open Responses

These responses are intended to give users seven days in which to reply after an action or instruction. After that time, the idea is the report can be closed (your mileage may vary).

Address Adjustment

I've forced Waze to re-register the destination house number. Please allow 48 hours for changes to be reflected in the live map.

You will need to delete any previous searches from recent destinations or saved favorites before you save a new search for this address. Old searches will continue to give a bad location.

Please let us know if you continue to experience the problem. Otherwise, we'll close this report in a few days. Thanks!

Detour - Traffic

We reviewed the issue and did not find any map errors. Waze wants to save you time every way it can and may suggest complex routes based on traffic data to save time. Waze may recommend a route after the traffic has cleared up because: it doesn't know yet, other Wazers may have reported street closures, or traffic patterns. If you do not follow the route, Waze will learn from your drive and use that data in the future. We'll close this report in a few days. Thanks!
Return to top

Detour - Traffic Stale (Late Detour)

Volunteer map editors can't affect Waze's traffic reporting. Waze relies on data from Wazers to assess traffic. In the case of a recent accident or slowdown, Waze may not yet have any data on the situation and route you into it because it doesn't know. Once Waze has detected a traffic situation, it may remember after the situation changes. If you do not follow the route, Waze will learn from your drive and use that data in the future. We'll close the report in a few days. Thanks!

Fixed

We reviewed the issue and updated the map. Please allow 48 hours for changes to be reflected in the live map (rarely up to two weeks). We'll close this report in a few days if we don't hear from you. Thanks!

Google - Address Adjustment

Thank you for your report. Your search was returning the Google locaation. I've submitted a request to Google to correct the location. However, I cannot guarantee if or when that will be done.

You can also use the Report -> Places feature in Waze to mark the location. After taking a picture please move near the place you're marking before saving. Do not submit pictures containing faces, license plates, or similar personal identifying details. We'll close this report in a few days if we don't hear from you. Thanks!

Thank you for your report. The search feature retrieves results from a number of locations, including Google. Not all of them return correct locations. Scrolling to the bottom of the Navigate screen, you'll see "More results for 'name.'" Select that and Waze will list locations "Around You" which may be more helpful. You can also select results from other search engines. Please let us know if you continue to have the issue. Otherwise we'll close this report in a few days. Thanks!

Google - Searching Past Results and Address Adjustment

Thank you for your report. Your search was returning the Google location. Scrolling to the bottom of the Navigate screen, you'll see "More results for 'name.'" Select that and Waze will list locations "Around You" which may be more helpful. You can also select results from other search engines.

Thanks!

Missing Roads - At Speed

The roads here have been pretty thoroughly mapped and volunteers can't see anything missing that should ordinarily be there. Thanks!

Standing Start ("180")

It appears you may have asked for a new route from a standing start. Please drive in the direction you desire to give Waze a chance to know which way you are headed and offer you a more suitable route. Waze will recalculate the route or you may ask for the route again.

When asking for a route immediately after waking up Waze, it must guess what direction you are pointed. It may give you an awkward route, particularly in a parking lot with mapped parking lot roads.

If this was not the problem, please reply with more details. Otherwise we'll close this report in a few days. Thanks!

Event - Chicago Marathon Closures

Thank you for the report. Some street closures for the Chicago Marathon were not posted to the map because they were not made available to us in sufficient time. If this report is not related to the Chicago Marathon, please let us know. Otherwise, we will close this report in a few days. Thanks!

U-Turns - Allowed in Illinois

The driver is the final arbiter on route selection. If you feel a suggested route is not appropriate for any reason, please use your judgement to disregard an objectionable route suggestion. Waze will calculate a new route.

U-Turns in Illinois are allowed under the conditions provided in the Illinois Vehicle Code (625 ILCS 5) unless restricted by the State or local municipality. The imagery we have available does not indicate any posted restrictions and we can't edit the map to countervene.

We'll close this report in a few days if we don't hear from you. Thanks!

Address Adjustment

I've forced Waze to re-register the destination house number. Please allow 48 hours for changes to appear on the live map.

You will need to delete any previous searches from recent destinations or saved favorites before you save a new search for this address. Old searches will continue to give a bad location.

You can also use the Report -> Places feature in Waze to mark the location. After taking a picture please move near the place you're marking before saving. Do not submit pictures containing faces, license plates, or similar personal identifying details.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Detour - Valid Route / No Errors / No Traffic Info

We reviewed the issue and did not find any map errors. If you feel your route is better, please use it. Waze will learn from your drives. Waze uses accumulated information and real-time traffic to select routes. When your route is faster, Waze will route you and others the faster way. You may also find your route listed as an option in Navigate -> Routes. Thanks!

Traffic - Use Traffic Jam (and Peanut Butter unless you're Allergic)

To report traffic jam conditions, please use the Report -> Traffic Jam in Waze. This will tell Waze about the problem in real-time. Traffic Jam reports can help route you and other Wazers around traffic snarls. Thanks!

Need Route

Would you be able to supply the origin and destination of your route (or close proximity that follows the same route)? We'd like to research, but don't have that information. Thanks!

Road Closed

How long will the road be closed? For closures of only a few days, we volunteer map editors can't be much help. It takes at least that long for our edits to make it to devices! When you encounter short-term road closures in the future, please use the Report->Closure feature in the Waze app. If this is a long-term closure please respond and let us know as much as you can. Thanks!
