Revision as of 23:18, 9 February 2024

As of February 2023, Waze are importing ECVS as PURs onto WME, this data is from an external provider and we are being asked to review and confirm the data.

Data provided EVCS

You should take extreme care when reviewing EVCS PURs supplied by the data provider, this is due to each WME Place being linked back to the data provider for future development of this feature. You are only to reject a PUR if you are absolutely certain the EVCS do not exist. Be aware that the roll-out of EVCS across the country is an ongoing project by many separate providers and joint ventures, therefore even recent aerial images and Street View images may be out-of-date.

You can use each providers website / map / app to assist in confirming the expected location of an EVCS.

Do not trust the Google Maps linked address, not all EVCS locations are mapped by Google the PUR imports appear to attached the nearest Google Map location, this is especially important with lamppost chargers that may have multiple locations along a street.

If the map needs to be updated to provide better routing to the EVCS then also spend a moment to improve the map.

Duplicates

It is important that you don't assume PURs are duplicate and investigate thoroughly before merging EVCS due, but not limited to, the following reasons:

  • more than 1 provider may have equipment at the same location, these should be mapped as separate EVCS
  • the same provider may have multiple equipment at the same location, some accessible to the general public, with others limited in use either restricted or private, these require mapping as separate EVCS
  • EVCS which are located on different floors of a multi-storey car park should be mapped as separate locations due to differences in equipment numbers and plug types

Duplicates of existing WME Places should be accepted and treated as the primary mapping, the existing WME Place should then be merged into the new feed provided EVCS.

If you are unsure about the existence of an EVCS or can't confirm it's location do not action the PUR and bring it to the attention of the Champs for review.

EVCS details

You will not be able to edit the majority of the details from feed imported EVCS and you should assume it as trusted information for the time being. Any errors should be reported as per the instructions below.

Access type

The UK Community has decided to differ slightly on the meaning of Public and Restricted when it comes to classifying EVCS. The definitions below overrule that shown in the WME Tooltip for Access Types.
The current version of WME (Feb 2023) has the tooltip descriptions of Restricted and Private labelled incorrectly, these should be swapped.
  • Public: EVCS that are available to the general public. We define this as any EVCS that you can drive up to, and plug in. We include paid EVCS locations in customer only car parks as being Public. Examples; Retail parks, supermarkets, paid public car parks, motorway service areas, on-street parking (incl. partial timed restrictions), petrol station forecourts
  • Restricted: EVCS that are available to the general public, but with limitations, such as logging your registration with reception, being a member of a club, visitors to an attraction, free charging included with another service. Examples; Hotels, golf clubs, permit holders at all times, theme parks
  • Private: EVCS that are at residential homes for use by the homeowner, apartments complexes that have shared parking, or workplaces for use by employees. We also consider residential chargers that are shared via "plug sharing" networks, but are not available to the general public should also be considered private.
If there is any doubt on the accessibility of a charger if should be marked as Restricted until we can be sure otherwise.

Naming

Always start the EVCS with the network name, followed by the location or business the located at.

Examples: Tesla Supercharger - Regent Hotel, Pod Point - Tesco Walsgrave, ubitricity - 37 Halstow Road

Location in venue

Add a short descriptive location of the equipment; rear of car park, first 4 bays on left, beside KFC building, lamppost charger, etc

Description

Any additional information you feel would be useful to users that does have an attribute or text field option, such as noting times when EVCS may be restricted to permit holders.

Errors in EVCS venues

You may occasionally find a EVCS that contains the wrong details (Plugs, Network, Duplicates or other) as provided by the Feed Provider. If there is a confirmed inaccuracy, then report this to the UK Champs using the UK Editor Request forum, given the Permalink to the venue and the specific issue. For duplicates, please ensure you also forward the Permalink to the duplicated venue. The UK Champs will then forward these details to the Waze team responsible.
