Taxis

The Waze app has the ability to set Taxi as the vehicle type.
On road segments restrictions can be set where Taxi is one of the available vehicle types. But...

It is NOT the intention to drive with the Taxi setting and also NOT the intention to edit for Taxi.

The Taxi setting in the Netherlands is reserved for safety regions. For the time being, Amsterdam edits for Taxi are still tolerated.

Local

In different municipalities, taxis with a local permit can use special roads (such as Bus lanes), shortcuts and parking spaces. However, such a local permit is only valid in a very specific area. For example, Taxis with a Utrecht license have no special rights outside Utrecht. Due to the very local effect of those permits, it is very difficult for us to support the use of vehicle type Taxi throughout the country. That is why, as a rule, we do not edit for Taxis in the Netherlands. Taxis that use Waze as their navigation tool should simply set Passenger car as the vehicle type.

Safety Regions

There is one important exception. The taxi setting is used by emergency services in some specific Safety Regions. Here we as Waze Netherlands have a collaboration with these Safety Regions. Restrictions with only allowed for Taxi, here means: allowed for police, fire brigade and ambulances.

Veiligheidsregio Zuid-Holland Zuid

Met de veiligheidsregio Zuid-Holland Zuid (VRZHZ) zijn daarnaast extra afspraken gemaakt. Deze editor-accounts hebben allemaal VRZHZ in hun naam en vanuit de VRZHZ is Ronald Dekker (@Ro-VRZHZ op Slack) het centrale aanspreekpunt. De veiligheidsregio heeft Waze geïntegreerd in hun alarm applicatie en vanuit een melding wordt er direct met Waze naar het incidentadres gestuurd. Juiste navigatie voor de proriteitsvoertuigen is voor hen dus erg belangrijk. Belangrijk voor VRZHZ zijn closures. Ze hebben met de diverse aannemers directe contacten. Op basis van deze informatie zetten ze specifieke closures die mogelijk afwijken van openbare bronnen zoals Melvin. Mocht er dus een verschil zitten tussen een closure in WME en een bron als Melvin, is het niet de bedoeling om de closure aan te passen of te verwijderen. Neem bij twijfel contact op met Ronald (Ro-VRZHZ) via Slack. Wat afwijkt in de standaard werkafspraken in Nederland is dat ze segmenten opknippen voor closures. Doorgaans wordt alleen een heel segment afgesloten, maar daardoor kan een proriteitsvoertuig mogelijk onnodig om moeten rijden. Ze knippen ruim op tijd voor de closure een segment zodat de Map-update op tijd is. Als je dus extra nodes op een segment ziet welke door een VRZHZ-account zijn aangemaakt, dan is dit een bewuste actie op basis van deze werkafspraken. Ook is er afgesproken dat bij segmenten die éénrichtingsverkeer zijn, ze segmenten tijdelijk tweerichting maken met, in de gesloten richting, een restrictie voor regulier verkeer en een uitzondering voor hun proriteitsvoertuigen (voertuigtype taxi). Ook dit is om hun voertuigen zo snel mogelijk op de juiste bestemming te krijgen.

Bus lanes

For bus lanes that are indicated on the map, but not as motorable roads, the road type Pedestrian_Boardwalk is used. Bus lanes specific to the vehicle type Taxi are assigned a road type corresponding to the importance of the routing with the restriction Only for Taxis.
