Want to help out with the map in Rhode Island? Below is a list of projects that need to be done. Please see Map Editing & Editing Best Practices for a starting point on how to edit the map.

When you are done, please update the info & turn the background gray. If you need help see How to edit wiki pages. Sounds scary but it's easy just watch this short video.

Functional Classifications

This section tracks the progress of updating RI roads to match the new functional classification standards as discussed here. If you would like to contribute to this effort, add your name to the list of Editors for the town you're updating and update the progress and notes based on what is still left to be done.

Changes should be based on the RIDOT Functional Classification Maps (pages 117-157). Items highlighted in yellow indicate work in this town is currently in progress.

Proposed Freeways

This section is for proposed upgrades of Major Highways to Freeways that meet the definition of "controlled-access highway." This is only a draft, please do not change the road type of these roads until consensus is reached.

State Highway Naming

This section tracks the progress of the effort to rename all state highways in Rhode Island with the designation RI-XXX. The goal is to have all numbered routes in the state use this designation to allow for route shields to appear on the Waze app. Note that, in cases where the locals refer to these roads by their common name instead of the route number, the designation will be recorded as an alternate name.

If you would like to contribute to this effort, including local knowledge about alternate route names, please add your notes and name to the route that you are verifying and change the row's background color to gray once the route has been verified.

Please refer to this map to determine which roads cover which routes.
