The Waze user community follows the Waze etiquette guidelines discussed in the Wiki. Be sure to familiarize yourself with these guiding principals while editing the maps and this Wiki, as well as when communicating with other Waze users.
The functional classification for Nebraska is dictated by the Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR). NDOR has released functional classification maps for all counties and cities within counties.

Cities and towns
One of the most common errors when editing the maps is when an editor creates a road and does not confirm the road by setting the city and road name (or stating it has none).
|There is an error in the Waze Map Editor (WME) which periodically errantly sets the state to Iowa when creating new segments in Nebraska. When adding new segments, please ensure that the state is correctly set to Nebraska.|

^a State highways never share the same number as any U.S. or Interstate highway that runs through the state.
^c A Link is a highway that connects two major highways.
^d A Spur is a highway that connects a major highway to a city or town where no other highway exists.
^e Recreation Roads are the roads contained within a State Park and are almost never signed but do appear in NDOR and FC maps.
County road naming
County roads with the name designation of "County Road ##" or "Co Rd ##" are to be named in Waze as CR-##. This shortened version takes up less space on the map screen and is announced correctly as "County Road ##" while navigating with the Waze app.
Roads named N, S, E or W
If you encounter any roads that are named N, S, E, or W, you must add a period (.) to the end of the letter. For example, West N Street is abbreviated as W N. St. This ensures the TTS system reads the road name as "West EN Street" and not "West North Street" This does not apply to county roads or Nebraska state highways and spurs abbreviated as N-##X and S-##X. Waze recognizes these as county roads, state highways and spurs, and pronounces them correctly.
In Nebraska, we observe a minimum standard for locking roads based on segment type. Any road of a certain segment type must be locked at least to the rank listed in the chart below. Roads may be locked higher for protection and special situations (construction, confusing design, frequent mistakes, image inaccuracies, etc.), but should not be locked lower.
Although common practice is to limit editing freeways to rank 5 or higher, we have determined that the experience required to reach editing rank 4 is sufficient to gain the privilege of editing freeway segments.
Nebraska Functional Classification
For the most part, Nebraska's Functional Classification is pretty straightforward. Nebraska divides its FC in to two classes, Urban and Rural. There are several several road types listed as Urban Principal Arterial. Because Waze only identifies a single Principal Arterial category, the Connecting Link and Non-Connecting Link Principal Arterial categories are considered the same. Interstates and Other Freeways & Expressways are always drawn as adespite being listed under Urban Principal Arterial.

^b A true controlled-access freeway should always be classified as a . Some expressways however, are only partially controlled-access and do not qualify for classification as a freeway. Use your best judgement on which to choose.
For Waze routing, u-turns should only be enabled where they provide the potential for improved routing, which includes recovering from missed turns. A common example is a median-divided primary street that has homes/businesses with their driveways/entrances directly on it, where reaching them would otherwise require lengthy, multi-turn deviations through side roads in order to end up on the correct side of the median.
The u-turn must also meet one of the following criteria:
- The u-turn is explicitly allowed by signage OR
- The u-turn is otherwise legal and safe, and there is at least 10.1 m (33 feet) from the left edge of the departure lane to the "destination" curb. This can include any median that may exist to the left of the departure lane. (This is to ensure the turn can be completed in one continuous movement, which is a legal requirement in many places)
Note that when editing, a functional u-turn can arise from more than just the u-turn flag on a road segment, such as with these common scenarios:
- Divided roads with box and partial-box intersections where the median segment is 15 m (49 feet) or longer.
- Divided roads with explicitly-mapped inside turn lanes unless the turn arrow in the u-turn direction is disabled.
Nebraska follows the Waze USA speed limits guidance. Please read that page carefully before editing any Speed Limits (SLs).
Nebraska does not alter speed limits for work zones.
Speed limit changes in NE should occur in both directions of travel at the same point (a slowdown from 65mph to 45mph in one direction has a matching 65mph sign in the opposite direction of travel).
- Opposing signs are often not exactly opposite the road from each other; place the speed change halfway between them.
- If there is a substantial distance separating opposing signs (multiple seconds of driving at full speed), bring it to the attention of a State Manager.
Speed Limit standards
The following are the speed limits laws of Nebraska, except where posted signs indicate differently (most commonly in/near urban areas).
- Residential district: 25 mph. These are generally unsigned unless a Primary Street type or higher.
- Business district: 20 mph. It is generally believed these are all signed, and no assumptions about what constitutes a "business district" must be made.
- Gravel or dirt city/county highway: 50 mph. The majority of these are not signed.
- Paved city/county highway: 55 mph. These are generally signed when leaving/entering an urban area, but may lack signs elsewhere.
- State highway: 60 mph, unless signed for 65 mph.
- State expressway or State freeway: 65 mph.
- (National) Interstate: 75 mph. There are slowdowns in/near some major urban areas.

Useful Scripts For Editing Speed Limits
Nebraska follows the standard USA guidelines for all of the following special road types.

|We have special rules which enhance and modify the general map guidelines provided by Waze. We ask that when editing in Nebraska you follow these rules for special road types.|
In many Nebraska counties, the Dirt road type should apply only to roads that are truly dirt/low-maintenance. Well-maintained gravel roads should NOT be set as the Dirt Road type. They should be at least Street type and potentially as high as Primary Street status. The reason some of these gravel roads qualify for Primary Street status is based upon their functional classification designation. These roads may be gravel, but they are intended to be main routes between towns (especially in rural areas) and are often wider and more frequently maintained. This of course isn't ideal for Wazers who'd prefer to avoid gravel roads, but until an unpaved option is made available to apply as an attribute, it's the best overall option for routing.
Alleys are to be mapped since they are sometimes required to access parking lots, businesses, and residences. Alleys are to be the parking lot road type and the name should be set to "Alley."
Following the spirit of mapping all drivable surfaces, parking lot roads are to be mapped in Nebraska. Please follow the general guidelines and use discretion to provide functionality without overcrowding the map.
Rural driveways in NE should frequently be mapped (as Private Roads), even if shorter than the general Driveways recommendation of 50 meters. Drivers will often be travelling at a high speed, and an upcoming turn provides the necessary advanced warning of their destination. Driveways also serve as useful navigation landmarks on otherwise featureless rural roads. If they are not mapped, Waze may mistakenly snap to a nearby road and interfere with the speed data or provide confusing directions. When mapping a new driveway, check the House Numbers on all nearby roads to ensure all entries are closest to the most appropriate road or driveway.
Urban driveways do not qualify for mapping in most circumstances unless they meet certain route-aiding criteria as defined in the national standards for Driveways.

In general, do not name parking lot segments. Some exceptions may apply, but please consult with other Nebraska editors before naming segments within a lot.
In the Plains region, stations are named as Station Name (Brand). If the station brand is unknown, then Station Name. If the station name and brand are the same, then Brand. For example:

These name spellings are standardized so that Wazers will receive consistent results when searching in the client. Please use them when you edit one of these chain or franchise businesses.

Not every camera-looking device at an intersection is a speed or red light camera. Generally speaking:
Be sure to know your cameras before accepting new camera reports.
When adding a camera, be sure to review the camera placement recommendations.
Laws regarding speed and red light cameras vary between the states and territories, so be sure to understand the details of camera legality in Nebraska.
Based on information researched at the time this page was created, Nebraska does not have any laws regarding red light or speed cameras, therefore they may be present in the state.
No other camera types should be mapped in Waze.
|There are no statewide laws regulating red light or speed cameras in Nebraska. However, there are NO cameras present in any municipality and all cameras added to the map should be removed.|
